Compass One: Shops, Food, Library and Getting There from Hougang

For most Sengkang residents, Compass One is simply the town centre. It sits at 1 Sengkang Square, next to Sengkang MRT/LRT station (NE16) and Sengkang Bus Interchange, and it combines a supermarket, a food court, a public library and a long list of chain restaurants. It is two stops up the North East Line from Hougang, which puts it well within reach for anyone considering LinkTown Residences (Hougang Central Residences).

A short history

The mall started life as Compass Point. M&G Real Estate took full ownership in early 2016 and relaunched it later that year as Compass One after a major revamp, according to reports in The Straits Times and EdgeProp at the time. It has since been Sengkang’s largest everyday mall, and it calls itself a family-oriented hub for the town.

Anchor tenants and everyday shops

• Cold Storage (#B1-25), the main supermarket, busiest on weekday evenings.
• Decathlon (#01-33) for sports gear.
• POPULAR (#03-11) for books and school supplies.
• Electronics and home: Challenger, Samsung, an Apple premium reseller, OSIM, Japan Home and a Harvey Norman listed as coming soon.
• Pharmacies and beauty: Guardian and Watsons, plus opticians such as OWNDAYS and Lenskart.
• For children: a LEGO Certified Store, Smiggle and MINISO.
• Services: banks (OCBC, POSB), telcos, Mister Minit, a money changer and Valu$.

Transport links

Every Sengkang LRT train starts and ends at Sengkang station, so Compass One is one ride from almost any block in town, and the bus interchange is next door. As of September 2026, LTA has closed the Sengkang LRT West Loop’s inner direction (via Cheng Lim) until 18 October 2026 for works; the other direction still runs. LinkTown Residences is planned directly above Hougang MRT and a new integrated bus interchange, with a mall of about 300,000 sq ft developed and owned by CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust, set to become the largest in Hougang. Hougang today has about 2.8 sq ft of private retail space per resident against a national average of about 11.4 sq ft, which is why residents often travel to places like Compass One. How the new mall changes that is not something anyone can price in advance; it is simply a daily-convenience point.
