Cafes in Sengkang: Jalan Kayu Brunch, Park Views and Late Ice Cream in Fernvale

Unlike Kovan or Serangoon Gardens, Sengkang has no single café street. Its cafés are scattered: a shophouse on Jalan Kayu, a restaurant inside Sengkang Riverside Park, a late-night ice cream bar in Fernvale, and bakery counters in malls and newer coffee shops. This guide covers six places we could confirm operating in 2026, grouped by area, with routes from Hougang Central, where LinkTown Residences (Hougang Central Residences) is planned above the MRT.

West side: Jalan Kayu and Fernvale

The Apricus Coffee & Food Co.

248 Jalan Kayu. Opened in 2022 by the founders of The Populus café, Apricus fills a long shophouse on the Jalan Kayu strip better known for prata. A May 2026 café guide describes Australian-style brunch plates, pasta and desserts, with its French toast topped with soft serve a signature. It is busiest at weekend lunch, and some evenings run later than weekdays, so check hours before going.

Cold Flings

21 Fernvale Road, #01-05, High Park Residences. A small ice cream and waffle shop on the ground floor of a Fernvale condominium, listed in a July 2026 round-up of ice cream cafés. Scoops lean towards playful flavours such as blue pea sea salt and green apple Yakult, and it trades late into the night on several days. Seating is limited, so many people take a cone for a walk.

The Wildseed Cafe (a short ride away)

3 Park Lane, Seletar Aerospace Park. Not in Sengkang itself, but a popular weekend trip from Fernvale. The café sits in the green, low-rise setting of Seletar Aerospace Park, with botanical interiors, brunch and lunch in the day and dinner service in the evening; its menu uses produce from on-site gardens. Use a journey planner for the bus from Fernvale.

East side: the park and the neighbourhoods

Tenderbest Makcik Tuckshop

50 Anchorvale Street, Sengkang Riverside Park. A casual restaurant-café inside the park, with both indoor and outdoor seating. An April 2026 family guide lists local and Western dishes such as laksa prawn spaghetti and pizzas. It works well after a loop of the park; our Sengkang Riverside Park guide has the walking routes.

BakeCakery at The Coffeehood & Tea Hall

170A Sengkang East Drive. Sengkang’s coffee shops are getting closer to cafés. This one opened on 9 January 2026 with seven stalls, including BakeCakery for waffles, pastries and pinsa, and it lists opening from 7am to 10pm. It is a good example of the newer air-conditioned kopitiam format.

Near the MRT: Sengkang Grand Mall and Compass One

For a quick coffee and cake by the train, Chateraise on level 1 of Sengkang Grand Mall, next to Buangkok MRT, sells Japanese cakes, cream puffs and ice cream. Compass One, above Sengkang MRT, has bubble tea, doughnut and dessert chains. Neither is a lingering café, but both are dependable. Our Compass One guide lists the rest.

The train to Sengkang takes roughly 4 to 5 minutes (approximate); allow extra time for the LRT or bus, which can add as much again or more depending on the loop and direction.
