Hougang becomes an NEL–CRL interchange. Bus interchange, mall and town plaza
The Hougang Central Residences development integrates a new Hougang bus interchange, a mall of about 300,000 sq ft of lettable area owned by CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust, a town plaza with sheltered public event space and a range of food and beverage outlets. Hougang has about 230,000 residents but only around 2.8 sq ft of private retail space per person, against a national average of 11.4 sq ft, so the new mall is set to be the largest in the town.
Existing malls nearby include Hougang Mall (about a 2-minute walk), Hougang 1, Hougang Green Shopping Mall and Heartland Mall in Kovan. NEX in Serangoon and Compass One in Sengkang are a short ride on the NEL. Waterway Point in Punggol is about 15 minutes by car.
Schools
Montfort Junior School is next to the site. Holy Innocents’ Primary School and CHIJ Our Lady of the Nativity are reported to be within about 1 km. Other schools in Hougang include Xinmin Primary, Punggol Primary, Montfort Secondary and Xinmin Secondary.
