Hougang Swimming Complex and Hougang Sports Centre: After the 2026 Upgrade

Hougang Swimming Complex and Hougang Sports Centre are back. After more than a year of improvement works, ActiveSG Hougang Sport Centre, including the pool and Hougang Stadium, reopened on 30 May 2026. If your memory of the place is from before 2025, most of it has changed. This guide covers what is there now, the hours ActiveSG lists, how to book, and how the complex fits daily life for anyone living at Hougang Central, where LinkTown Residences (Hougang Central Residences) is planned above the MRT.

Hougang Swimming Complex

ActiveSG classes Hougang as a normal pool, which means a standard swim pass covers entry. It has three pools:

• Competition pool for lap swimming. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday it opens early, from 6.30am to 8am, for lap swimmers only.
• Training pool, now sheltered, so lessons and training can carry on in wet weather.
• Wading pool, refreshed with a small water play feature with water cannons and fountains for young children.

The weekly closure is Tuesday. If a Tuesday falls on a public holiday, the pool opens as usual. As with any outdoor pool, sessions can pause during lightning.

Hougang Sports Centre: gym and sports hall

ActiveSG gym

The gym has grown from about 570 sq m to 940 sq m. It now includes HUR strength machines, which use air pressure and lever systems and suit a wide range of fitness levels, including older users. Sports hall

The indoor hall now has eight multi-purpose courts for badminton, basketball and volleyball, plus four dedicated pickleball courts. Retractable seating for up to 250 people means the hall can host community tournaments, so check for closures around events.

Hougang Stadium

The stadium has a field and running track, with two adult fitness stations, two full basketball courts, a 3×3 basketball court and open space for group exercise. It is Hougang United’s traditional home ground; the club has played home games at Jalan Besar Stadium since 2023 during the redevelopment, so check the club’s fixtures for where matches are held now.

What else changed in the upgrade

• Barrier-free access through the complex, with accessible toilets that include motorised hoists and adult changing beds
• Sheltered walkways linking the main areas
• A larger drop-off porch and more sheltered and open space for classes and events
• Refreshed lighting, toilets and changing rooms

How to book and pay

1. Download the ActiveSG app or use the ActiveSG website, and log in with Singpass.
2. Pool and gym: buy an entry pass or a longer-term pass, then scan in at the gate.
3. Courts: search for Hougang, pick the sport, date and slot, and pay online. Evening and weekend badminton slots are the first to go.
4. Lessons and classes: ActiveSG programmes are listed in the app with their own fees. Private coaches also teach at the pool; confirm the time and lane arrangements with them.

Rates differ for citizens, PRs and others, and for students and seniors. See ActiveSG for current prices rather than relying on older figures online.

Tips for families and first-time visitors

• Young swimmers: the wading pool with its water play feature is the easiest start for toddlers. Bring swim nappies and plan for a shorter visit on hot afternoons.
• Lessons: weekend mornings are the busiest for swim classes, so lap swimmers may prefer weekday evenings or the early sessions.
• Weather: outdoor facilities may close during lightning and heavy rain. Check the weather before you set out, and keep the indoor gym or sports hall in mind as a fallback.
• Getting there: it is a short walk from the MRT, so there is little reason to drive.

Other pools and sports facilities nearby

If Hougang is closed on a Tuesday, the nearest alternatives are Serangoon Swimming Complex on Yio Chu Kang Road and Sengkang Swimming Complex on Anchorvale Road, which has water slides. What this means for Hougang Central residents

The sport centre and pool are a few hundred metres along Hougang Avenue 4 from Hougang MRT, and Hougang Sports Centre is among the amenities reported as adjacent to or near the Hougang Central site. For someone living at LinkTown Residences, that puts a public pool, a gym, badminton and pickleball courts and a running track within an easy walk, next to the polyclinic and a short stroll from Hougang Mall.
