1. Walk or jog the Punggol Park lake loop

Punggol Park sits in Hougang, not Punggol, and its lake is the town’s favourite place for an early walk. 2. Swim or play at the reopened sports centre

3. Cycle a park connector to Punggol or Sengkang

From Punggol Park, the park connector network links to the waterways of Sengkang and Punggol. A morning ride to Punggol Waterway Park and back is a comfortable family outing on a weekend.

4. Catch a football match, or check where it is

Hougang Stadium is the traditional home ground of Hougang United. The club has played home games at Jalan Besar Stadium since 2023 while the sports centre was redeveloped, so check the fixtures before heading out.

9. NEX for a full day indoors

Two stops south at Serangoon, NEX has shops, food courts, a cinema and a rooftop library, all joined to the station. It is the easy answer to a wet Saturday with children.

10. A late supermarket run at Hougang Green

The Giant at Hougang Green Shopping Mall on Hougang Street 51 is listed as open 24 hours, handy after a late dinner. It is closer to Buangkok MRT than to Hougang Central.

11. Heritage stops along Upper Serangoon Road

Hougang’s name, 后港, is usually read as “rear port”, from its position upriver on the Serangoon River, and the town has strong Teochew roots. Two landmarks on Upper Serangoon Road are worth a visit: the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of Singapore’s older Catholic churches, and Tou Mu Kung, known for its Nine Emperor Gods festival.
