ActiveSG Gym Guide: Hougang, Sengkang and Serangoon Gyms, Passes and Prices

If you are searching for an ActiveSG gym in the North-East, the good news is that there are four within easy reach of Hougang, and the closest is a short walk from Hougang MRT. They are run by Sport Singapore, they share the same pass system, and at a few dollars per visit they are the cheapest way to lift weights or use a treadmill in the area. This guide lists each gym, explains how entry works in the ActiveSG app, and sets out the rates ActiveSG published in September 2026. It is written for people weighing a move to Hougang Central, where LinkTown Residences (Hougang Central Residences) is planned above the MRT station.

Addresses and hours are from each gym’s ActiveSG page, checked in September 2026. Travel is described in stops; allow roughly 15 to 25 minutes door to door for the Sengkang and Serangoon gyms, depending on connections. Gyms occasionally close for maintenance or events, so check before you go.

Hougang ActiveSG Gym

This is the one a Hougang Central resident would use most. It sits inside Hougang Sport Centre on Hougang Avenue 4 and was formerly called Hougang ClubFITT Gym. The whole sport centre reopened on 30 May 2026 after a long upgrade, and the gym came out of it much larger, at about 940 sq m, with HUR air-pressure strength machines that suit beginners and older users as well as the usual cardio and free-weight areas. Sengkang ActiveSG Gym

Also a former ClubFITT gym, this one is inside Sengkang Sport Centre on Anchorvale Road, beside the river. The centre shares its grounds with Anchorvale Community Club and also holds a sheltered pool with water slides, a sports hall and a hockey pitch. Farmway LRT station on the Sengkang West Loop is the nearest stop. ActiveSG has posted a closure of the whole Sengkang Sport Centre on 12 October 2026, so plan around that date. ActiveSG Gym @ Fernvale Square

A smaller neighbourhood gym on the Fernvale side of Sengkang, managed by Sengkang Sport Centre and on the same road as The Seletar Mall. ActiveSG describes it simply as a gym with cardio and strength equipment. For most Hougang residents it is further than the other three, but it is handy if you work or shop in Fernvale. ActiveSG Gym @ Serangoon Central

Serangoon’s public gym is in the HDB town centre near NEX and Serangoon MRT. ActiveSG lists it as an inclusive gym that doubles as a rehabilitation centre, and it houses the Silver Circle Dance Studio, where classes are held. It is managed by Serangoon Sport Centre. What about Punggol, Kovan and Buangkok?

When we checked ActiveSG’s gym list in September 2026, there was no ActiveSG gym in Punggol, Kovan or Buangkok. A regional sport centre has long been planned for Punggol, but it did not appear on ActiveSG’s facility lists at the time of writing, so treat any opening date you read elsewhere as unconfirmed. Kovan and Buangkok residents are each one NEL stop from Hougang, which makes the Hougang gym the natural choice.

How passes and entry work

1. Get the app. Download the ActiveSG app and log in with Singpass. Basic membership is free.
2. Buy a pass. Choose a single entry (one visit) or a MyActiveGYM monthly plan. Monthly plans come as peak (any opening hour, any day) or off-peak (weekdays from opening until 4pm).
3. Check the crowd. Each gym page shows live capacity. Weekday evenings after work and weekends are the busiest times.
4. Scan in. Show the pass in the app at the gym entrance. No slot booking is needed.

Gym etiquette worth knowing

• Wear proper gym clothing and covered shoes; slippers and bare feet are not allowed.
• Bring a towel, wipe down equipment and return weights to the rack.
• If people are waiting, keep cardio machine sessions short.
• New to training? Ask the instructor on duty for a quick orientation before you start.

What this means for Hougang Central

For anyone living at Hougang Central, the public gym is close enough to use on a normal weekday: walk west along Hougang Avenue 4 for a few minutes and you are there. That matters when you compare homes, because a cheap, well-equipped public gym nearby can matter as much as a condo gym for some households. Hougang Central Residences is also expected to have its own facilities, but the developers have not published the list yet.
