BBQ Pit Booking in the North-East: NParks, Community and Rooftop Pits near Hougang

Searching for a BBQ pit booking from Hougang, Sengkang or Punggol turns up an awkward fact: none of the big north-east NParks parks lists barbecue pits. Punggol Park, Punggol Waterway Park, Sengkang Riverside Park and Coney Island Park all leave barbecuing off their activity lists, as of September 2026. So residents choose between booking an NParks pit further out, most often at Pasir Ris Park, or using a community pit closer to home. This guide explains both routes and what they mean for someone living at Hougang Central, where LinkTown Residences (Hougang Central Residences) is planned.

How NParks BBQ pit booking works

NParks runs bookable pits at six parks through AXS: Changi Beach Park, East Coast Park, Labrador Nature Reserve, Pasir Ris Park, Sembawang Park and West Coast Park. Jurong Lake Gardens is booked separately by email. The process:

1. Pick your channel. Apply online with Singpass, or use AXS: a physical AXS station, the e-Station website or the m-Station app.
2. Book early. Bookings open up to two months ahead and are first come, first served. Weekend and school-holiday dates go quickly.
3. Choose a specific pit. You pick any available pit when booking, so look at the park map first for one near a shelter or toilets.
4. Pay promptly. AXS gives you 15 minutes to complete booking and payment.
5. Keep the permit. Have it with you on the day, as officers may ask to see it.

Other conditions, per AXS: one pit per booking, one valid permit per person at a time, and permits are not transferable. Confirmed bookings cannot be cancelled and fees are non-refundable. You may change the date once, at least 48 hours ahead and subject to availability, but not the park.

NParks gives fees of S$12 to S$20 a day depending on the park.

Pasir Ris Park: the nearest NParks pits

Pasir Ris Park has 65 barbecue pits along the beach at S$20 a day, per NParks, spread across four areas:

• Area 1: 23 pits near D’Resort @ Downtown East
• Area 2: 10 pits near the Maze Garden
• Area 3: 12 pits near Car Park D
• Area 4: 20 pits near the PA Holiday Complex

From Hougang Central: the drive is roughly 15 to 20 minutes outside peak hours (approximate). By public transport today, check a journey planner, as the trip involves a bus or a change of lines. That will get simpler: when Cross Island Line Phase 1 opens, targeted around 2030, Pasir Ris will be three stops from Hougang on the CRL. Our Cross Island Line map shows the stations.

Rules on the day (NParks pits)

• Hours: 12pm to 10.30pm on the booked day only.
• No gas or generators: LPG cylinders, refillable gas cylinders, portable stoves and generators are not allowed.
• No tents, even if it rains.
• No open flames outside the pit and no sound systems.
• Charcoal: dispose of it properly once fully cooled, and keep paths clear.

Community pits closer to home

One Punggol rooftop

The People’s Association says the rooftop of One Punggol has 8 BBQ pits alongside a community garden and activity spaces. PA facilities are generally booked through onePA with Singpass; if you cannot find a listing, ask at One Punggol’s counter. One Punggol is in Punggol town, reached from Punggol MRT (NE17), three stops from Hougang on the NEL; check a journey planner for the walk or bus from the station. Residents’ Committee and Network pits

Many HDB estates have their own barbecue pits beside a precinct playground or RC centre. These are usually managed by the local Residents’ Committee or Residents’ Network, and booking rules, fees and eligibility vary. Some are for residents of that precinct only. Condominium pits

Most private condos include barbecue pits in their facilities, booked by residents through the management office or app. Rules on guest numbers, hours and deposits are set by each condo’s management. • Book before you invite. Popular dates go fast.
• Plan for rain. Tents are not allowed at NParks pits, so pick one near a shelter.
