Hawker Centre Cleaning Schedule: North-East Closure Dates for Q4 2026 and How to Check
Every NEA hawker centre shuts for a few days each quarter for a deep clean. Here are the October to December 2026 dates for the ten centres in Hougang, Serangoon, Sengkang and Punggol, and where to check the next ones.
The hawker centre cleaning schedule is one of those things you only think about when you arrive hungry and find the shutters down. Every hawker centre under NEA’s programme closes for a short deep clean roughly once a quarter. This guide lists the October to December 2026 dates for the ten centres in Hougang, Serangoon, Sengkang and Punggol, explains how the closures work, and shows where to check dates yourself. It is written for people living around Hougang Central, including future residents of LinkTown Residences (Hougang Central Residences).
How periodic cleaning works
Hawker centres are cleaned every day, but some jobs need the whole centre empty: scrubbing floors and drains, washing ceilings, fans and toilets, and pest control. So NEA sets a closure window for each centre, usually one to five days, about once every three months.
- Who closes: almost every stall, and the wet market section too where there is one. Treat the whole centre as shut.
- Who sets the dates: NEA publishes one schedule covering centres it runs itself, centres run by town councils, and the newer centres managed by operators under NEA’s socially-conscious enterprise hawker centre (SEHC) model.
- Longer closures: separate from cleaning, a centre may shut for weeks for repairs and redecoration. Chomp Chomp Food Centre, for example, was closed from 27 October 2025 to 26 January 2026. These show up as “other works”.
- Stall rest days: individual hawkers also take their own days off and holidays. Those are not in NEA’s schedule.

No North-East centre has repairs or other works listed for the quarter. Two third-quarter closures run right up to the end of September: Chomp Chomp on 28 September and Punggol Coast Hawker Centre from 28 to 30 September. Serangoon Garden Market’s third-quarter slot is still shown as “TBC”.
January to March 2027 dates have not been published yet. The current dataset covers 2026; NEA normally adds the next quarter’s dates ahead of time, and we will update this table when it does.
Weeks to plan around
- 16 to 17 November: Buangkok and Kovan 209 are both shut, and Kovan stays closed to 20 November. Ci Yuan and the Hainanese Village Centre are open.
- 7 to 8 December: Ci Yuan and One Punggol close together.
- 14 to 16 December: the busiest overlap. Anchorvale Village, Chomp Chomp and the Hainanese Village Centre are all closed; Kovan 209, Ci Yuan and Serangoon Garden Market are open.
- 21 to 23 December: Punggol Coast closes just before Christmas, so plan any festive meal there for another week.
If one centre near you is shut, the next one on the North East Line usually is not. From Hougang MRT (NE14), Buangkok is one stop north, Sengkang two and Punggol three; Kovan is one stop south. How to check the dates yourself
- data.gov.sg: search for “Dates of Hawker Centres Closure”. The dataset has one row per centre with start and end dates for each quarter, a remarks column and an “other works” column. You can view it in the browser or download it as CSV.
- NEA’s website: the hawker management overview lets you filter closures by month or by centre name.
- At the centre: look out for closure notices on site in the weeks before.
NEA’s myENV app is handy for finding hawker centres and hygiene grades, but for closure dates the two sources above are the ones to use. Dates can move, and “TBC” entries get filled in late, so check again the week before.
Who runs which centre
NEA’s list of hawker centres (dated 17 August 2026) shows three kinds of management in the North-East. Chomp Chomp and Serangoon Garden Market are run by NEA; Kovan 209 and the Hainanese Village Centre are managed by Aljunied-Hougang Town Council; and the six newer centres are run by SEHC operators: Fei Siong Social Enterprise (Ci Yuan, Buangkok), FairPrice Group Hawker Centre (Fernvale, Anchorvale Village, Punggol Coast) and Hawkermania (One Punggol). What this means for Hougang Central
LinkTown Residences sits above Hougang MRT, so a resident has three Hougang centres plus Kovan, Buangkok and Serangoon Gardens within a short train or bus ride. Because their closures are spread across different weeks, there is almost always an open hawker centre within one or two stops.
