Punggol Plaza: Wet Market, FairPrice, Koufu and the Route from Hougang Central

Punggol Plaza is Punggol’s oldest mall and still one of its most practical. It stands at 168 Punggol Field, right beside Coral Edge LRT station (PE3), and it is best known for something newer malls in the town do not have: a wet market. Add a supermarket, a Koufu food court and floors of clinics and tuition centres, and you have a building that handles a family’s weekly errands in one trip. Here is what to expect, and how it fits into life at LinkTown Residences (Hougang Central Residences), three NEL stops away.

Getting there from Hougang Central

Punggol Plaza is about 3.4 km from Hougang MRT in a straight line (OneMap), but the rail route bends through Punggol town centre:

1. North East Line from Hougang (NE14) to Punggol (NE17): 3 stops.
2. Punggol LRT East Loop from Punggol to Coral Edge (PE3): 3 stops, via Cove and Meridian.
3. Walk out of Coral Edge station to the mall entrance.

What is inside

Wet market

The market in the lower level is the mall’s point of difference. Wet markets are rare in a newer town like Punggol, where most food shopping happens in supermarkets. Expect stalls selling vegetables, fish, meat and dry goods. Like most wet markets, it is at its best early in the morning, and many stalls pack up by early afternoon.

Supermarket

Koufu food court (#01-01)

Koufu runs the ground-floor food court, and its outlet list gives hours of 5.30am to 11.30pm daily. That makes it one of the earlier breakfast options and a late supper stop in this part of Punggol; our late-night food guide lists more after-dark options. You will find the usual food court spread of rice, noodles, Malay, Indian and Western stalls. Each stall keeps its own hours, so a particular dish may not be available early or late.

Clinics, tuition and services

The upper floors are mostly services: GP and dental clinics, tuition and enrichment centres, hair and beauty, and small retail. Smaller tenants change often, so search for the business you need before a special trip.

For most Hougang Central residents, Punggol Plaza is not a regular destination. Hougang has three NEA hawker centres with markets of its own, and Hougang Mall is a short walk from the MRT. Where it earns a trip is if you have family on the Punggol East Loop, work in the Punggol Digital District, or want a quieter market run combined with a visit to the waterfront. A market run, step by step

If you are making the trip for the market, timing matters more than anything else. Leave Hougang Central early, ideally before 8am on a weekend, and you will reach Coral Edge in around 20–25 minutes. Do the market first while the choice is widest, then sit down for breakfast at the food court, and pick up anything else at the supermarket on the way out. By late morning the market thins out and the building shifts towards clinics, classes and lunch.

Opening hours and practical notes

• Hours: each business sets its own. The market is a morning affair; the food court opens early and closes late. Check before you go.
• Payment: most shops take cards and PayNow, but a little cash is handy at small market stalls.
• Bags: bring a reusable bag or trolley for the market.
• After school: lifts and corridors near the tuition floors fill up on weekday afternoons.

Punggol and Hougang Central

Punggol is the newest town on the North East Line, and it keeps growing around the Punggol Digital District and Punggol Coast station (NE18). The Cross Island Line interchange at Hougang, with Phase 1 targeted for around 2030, will add east–west rail from the same station.
